Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo
We traveled with my entire family, including 3 babies under 2, for a repeat visit to this fantastic property. My married children had come here on their honeymoons and now we were returning 5 and 6 years later with babies. We found the hotel staff to be particularly accommodating with the children. Upon our arrival, not only were the requested cribs in the rooms, but also baby soaps, baby bath robes, baby toys, swim diapers, a baby bathtub, and a diaper pail! Food is also FREE for children under 5. There are free laundry facilities on each floor making it worry free about bringing enough clothes for the children. The hotel has many activities during the day, most of them free. Don't miss the golf cart tour of the golf course, and the cooking class with the chef. This hotel is among the top hotels that I have ever stayed at for design, service and luxury.
We were excited to visit another Four Seasons Resort. This trip was unforgettable!! Since our daughter didn't have a party we decided to take her here. Upon arrival to the airport we had arranged for private resort transportation ($150) from the airport to the hotel. We were greeted in an SUV and our driver had cold water and cold towels to het refreshed. The drive was about 20 minutes. Once we arrived at the resort the staff was super friendly. Check in was quick and simple. They greeted our daughter with a stuffed frog. That was sweet. With it being her birthday we got upgraded for free to a 2- bedroom suite!!!! So we stayed in the suite for about a $1K a night... Sweet! We were taking to our suite by golf cart. The only thing that we did not like was that our suite was on the third floor and we had to lug our stoller up and down since there were no elevators. To get to the beach or lobby area we would call front desk for a golf cart and they would come and get us withing minutes so that was good. We could walk and it would take about 4-5 minutes. The beach was beautiful and calm. Our daughter loved to sit on the edge and we would play for hours and hours. The resort provides beach/sand toys. They also provide sunblock and cold water at the cabanas. Food was delicious. They have about 4-5 restaurants. Pricey but that's just typical of Four Seasons. One night we made reservations at the steak house at the golf course.....WOW! We ate on the terrace under the stars that night. It was amazing and so romantic. The food was great! They had a goodie bag for our daughter with a stuffed animal. This resort treated our daughter like a princess!! Our suite was home away from home. Comfortable bed/ bedding. Beautiful bathrooms. Service was excellent. They would even wash our dirty baby bottles!! On the day we arrived they had a mini birthday cake for our daughter along with cookies/treats. In the master bathroom in the tub they had some beach toys for her as well as her name on the tub! They also left her baby supplies, wipes, diapers. Every night we would leave the screen door open to our suite and just listen to the ocean waves... So relaxing. This trip was relaxing, amazing and if God permits, we will be back. We travel and stay at nothing but the best and this was one of the best!!!
Room Tip: Ask for a room/suites closer to the lobby area.

We decided to stay at the FS CR for our last half of our honeymoon. After being wooed by staying in the Pacuare Lodge where you white water rafted to the Lodge, we would be hard pressed to find a better experience, but the FS outdid any place I have stayed before. I do not say this lightly but this resort was the best place I have ever stayed and I have traveled extensively. It is perfect, from the service, to the food, to the layout, to the entire experience. From checking in and being greeted by Camille where we were rushed in style to our room, upgraded to a canopy villa, where we had a honeymoon cake and champagne waiting until the time we had to leave, everything was just perfect. In fact, my wife cried on our way out-truly exceptional and the service here is unmatched-Christian and Ally from Las Vegas.
We traveled to several places in Costa Rica and this was the highlight! As soon as we arrived, they treated us like royalty...cold towels and a fresh fruit drink. Then escorted us to our "least expensive" room option which was absolutely gorgeous! No need to upgrade, the "basic room" has a balcony, overlooked the ocean and was one of the prettiest and most magnificant rooms I gave ever stayed in. The resort was 40% occupied and felt like we owned it! The service and food was superb...we never left the hotel! We met so many wonderful guests, from puerto Rico, Argentina, etc...
Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo
Take Four Seasons pampering (chilled lemon-scented towels delivered to your chaise at the pool), cross it with the charm of location (just north of the Nicoya Peninsula, the hotel is set on the coastal hills above the placid Gulf of Papagayo), and you’ll have an idea of how this property distinguishes itself among the other luxury resorts in the region. Options abound: follow a naturalist guide on a bird-watching hike in one of the nearby national parks, sign up for an oxygenating sun repair facial at the lavish spa, spend the day at either of two resort beaches or three pools, or challenge yourself at the Arnold Palmer–designed golf course. And at the end of the day, fall back into your spacious room or suite (there are 145), with its private veranda and deep marble soaking tub.
Room to Book:
Fourth-floor rooms have Pacific panoramas.
Insider Tip:
The hotel restaurants are so focused on fresh seafood that you’re invited to select your own dinner from the boats of local fishermen.
A Few Days At Four Seasons Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo
Earlier this week I returned home from a few days in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. As a guest of the Four Seasons Costa Rica in Peninsula Papagayo, I joined a small group to experience the resort as well as do a little bit of volunteer work and sight-seeing in one of the planet’s most beautiful locations.
It was my first time in Costa Rica, a country that left me speechless (even what little I saw of it!) Beautiful, safe, warm and loving, I understand why so many of my friends are repeat visitors to this Central American country. There’s an immediate dose of relaxation that hits you the moment you exit your plane in Costa Rica. It’s the kind of vibe that can only be made in a place such as this. It’s as if the natural beauty of the country flows through the veins of its citizens in a way you feel internally. And this city dweller was ready to absorb it, too.
I arrived in Guanacaste to wet heat, neither oppressive nor friendly. With my documents in order I slid through customs in record time and met a driver who graciously met me with a cool towel and a bottle of water before we drove the 40 miles in darkness. And by darkness I mean the thick black patches of night you can’t find in a city. Would the coastline be a few miles behind this dark swatch of night? Rolling pastures? Fields of sugar cane? Mountains in the distance? I guess I’d have to wait until morning to find out.
I assembled the mojito ingredients that were waiting for me in my room: ice, lime juice, Costa Rican Rum, freshly plucked mint leaves and a bamboo muddler and sugar cane swizzle stick. It was exactly what I needed after two flights and 1 delay and man oh man did those mojitos go down smoothly. I was pretty exhausted and climbed into the bed of my villa.
Remember when I said I arrived in the darkness of night? I had no idea what was beyond my deck but I could sense there was a hillside below. It just sounded that way.
Well folks, I woke up to this.
Four Seasons Costa Rica at Papagayo Peninsula
The guttural cries of the howler monkeys in the tamarind and plum trees that grace the grounds of the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo provide our favorite welcome back, but that's once we enter the resort's gates. If you've chosen an individual family pickup, (which is cost-effective if you have a family of four to five), the pampering begins at the airport in Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste province. A resort representative handed us cold water bottles, most welcome after our flights, picked our luggage off the carousel and carried it to the van. The driver offered us cold towels and more water, saying "con much gusto" ( with much pleasure). That phrase, we heard over and over again from the resort's unfailingly polite and friendly staff. When families with a child ages 4 to 12 arrive, staff from the Kids For All Seasons program greet the children, giving them information about the children's program. Gifts await in the room for both youngsters and teens. The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo has 145 guest rooms, 20 two- to three-bedroom homes plus 20 condominium-like fractional ownership units. The property is not just another pretty beach resort with a good children's program. The resort's location and architecture set it apart. Situated in the midst of a tropical, dry forest in Costa Rica's northwest Guanacaste Province, the resort is the crown jewel -- in fact the only resort -- on the Peninsula Papagayo, a gorgeous swath of land jutting into the Pacific. The peninsula covers 2300 acres, and has 15 miles of coastline with 31 beaches. After environmental protests, developers scaled back the original plan for Peninsula Papagayo, conceived as a resort and residential (largely second homes) community, to 7,200 "keys" (guest rooms and homes). With the economy's slow down, the other luxury hotels slated to open have not yet broken ground (as of this posting), and the residences number around 50. So what's open besides the Four Seasons? A golf course, a marina, and the Prieta Beach Club, an upmarket, beachfront facility with a pool, soon to open spa and restaurant catering to homeowners and, for now, Four Seasons' guests. Hard facts about the development's future are difficult to come by. No one seems to know or is willing to say what hotels, if any, will join the Four Seasons or how many private homes will be built. We have been told that 70 percent of the land will remain as existing forest. That's good news since the natural landscape, monkeys and all, is a big draw. What this means for now is that as a guest of the Four Seasons you have an extraordinary natural setting to enjoy, one that comes with the extremely civilized amenities of a luxury resort. The Four Seasons not only raises the bar on luxury, but it sets a high standard for architectural integrity. Forget-about in-your-face glitzy high-rises with glaring lights and paved over lawns. The Four Seasons, poised atop a bluff, blends into the setting instead of shouts. To create this effect, architect Ronald Zurcher, a native Costa Rican, combines indigenous forms, earth and palm tree colors, soft lighting and clever positioning. The low-rise brown and green buildings hug the slopes below the tree line so that the foliage helps obscure the structures. Carefully created rooflines echo natural shapes. Some roofs angle upward like butterfly wings; others curve like the rounded back of an armadillo. That's particularly fitting in an ecologically sensitive country that protects more than 25 percent of its land in parks, forests and reserves. Costa Rica, with its 850-plus species of birds and hundreds of species of mammals, serves as the quintessential inspiration for all those theme park jungle rides in which toucans pop out at you through twisting vines and monkeys chatter overhead. Except, in Costa Rica, you get to enjoy the real thing. That brings us back to the howler monkeys. At first, my daughter thought they sounded like Jurassic Park dinosaurs. We soon became acclimated to their throaty cries, listening for the monkeys in the morning while we ate breakfast on our balcony and searching for them in the late afternoon in the trees outside the spa and near our room. It's rare -- and wonderful-- to enjoy five-star luxury and wild monkeys too.
