“We loved it and will stay here when we come back with the kids to CR”

The service at the hotel was great. The hotel was extremely clean and the pools were great. The service was quick and efficient and the tours were great as well. I would highly recommend this hotel for couples or kids. My husband planned this as a surprise trip for our 20th anniversary. The staff complied with his request for a private dinner atop the hotel, rose petals and gifts placed in our room for me while we were out. It was marvelous! I highly recommend this hotel for safely, cleanliness, pools and the food was amazing!

“Sibo Spa redo”

The spa is really top notch - I purchased a year long membership I think so much of it! I live on the resort and it is convenient and very well run. Spotlessly clean and a friendly staff.

“The Royal Treatment”

I travelled with a few girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. It was a beautiful facility and the staff treated us like royalty. It was fabulous. the pools were great for relaxing but also provided a volleyball area that we made good use of.

The view of the ocean was amazing to wake up to every morning.

Food offered a great variety and we never felt like we needed to go off site to dine. I especially liked the buffalo chicken fingers at the pool bar, flatbreads at the lobby bar and the special mussels at the restaurant. Breakfast buffet was a great way to start the day.

If you choose to go all inclusive, what what you are ordering, they do indicate on the menus what is part of the package and what is not. If you are not sure, ask, they are very helpful but you don't want an unexpected bill at the end.

Overall a fantastic place to stay. The onsite spa is fabulous.

Swiss travel on site is helpful for arranging tours but check around, they are not always the best choice.

“All-inclusive GREAT for people who dont want to go out and explore”

We visited Costa Rica for the first time this June. Great trip. Los Suenos all-inclusive saved us a TON of money on food and drinks. Drawbacks.. we were there the whole time. Nice RESORT... Beach not so much... If you want a place to just sit by a pool, all you can eat and drink, and friendly staff go for it. Met some nice people, but would probably go down closer to Manuel Antonio area, beautiful beaches, and pretty areas.

“High Quality Resort - Expect to Pay!!!”

We stayed 6 nights at the Los Suenos Marriott resort in June 2011. The resort is everything you would expect of a Marriott resort. It is clean and very comfortable. The pool is excellent. I had only heard bad things about the beach. It really is not that bad. It is safe to swim and the water is very warm. The sand is a bit grey - brown, but the bay is beautiful. Food and drinks at the resort are pricey. We tried walking down the beach to try some of the local restaurants but they were also expensive (e.g. $150 for a very nice dinner for a family of 4 at El Pelicano). To get better value for money you have to drive in Jaco (about 10 minutes away). I played the Iguana golf course. That is absolutely beautiful (but $146 with range balls). It is one of the top10 courses I have played (and I have played many of the best). The resort seems to attract some of the worst sort of American tourist who sit in the sun getting red all day, drink cocktails, smoke cigars and then chase the local ladies for hire at night. You certainly need to get out of the resort if you want to see Costa Rica. It does make for a very comfortable base.

“Had a great experience and result at Sibo Rainforest Spa!”

My daughter and I both had a facial while visiting beautiful Los Suenos Marriott. In the past I've had problems with facials on my very sensitive skin but the Champagne & Chocolate treatment was not only a delight to experience but gave a more noticeable result than any before. My daughter was also impressed with treatments, including deep tissue massage & facial, and the reasonable cost.

“Beautiful Resort - Sketchy Service”

When I wrote this several weeks ago, I was sitting in the lobby of the hotel at the beginning of an 8-day stay. We’re enjoying a wonderful lightening storm and tropical rain after spending several hours in the almost vacant pool after sunset. The grounds here are magnificent, as nice as I’ve seen anywhere, including Hawaii, Mexico, Borneo, Florida, and California. This place is immaculately clean with nice-sized guest rooms. The pool is fantastic with the sound of falling water permeating every area.
The beach is awful, not worth walking on much less laying on. It is dirty and dark and strewn with litter. We’ve found the service to be mostly inattentive and unorganized. My daughter and I sat at the swim up bar for 5 minutes and none of the servers even glanced our way even though there were only two other people being served at the time. We finally swam away. We had lunch at the main poolside restaurant, La Vista, and couldn’t ever really figure out who our waiter was as we had 7 different men at our table during the course of the meal. Despite the number of people hovering around the table they left our water glasses low and failed to remove garbage and dishes in a timely manner. The service was VERY slow – not that we were in a hurry, but we just waited and waited for everything, including a menu. The bread and eggplant cream cheese was great. The ceviche was very good as was the tortilla soup. The chicken with rice was bland and the chicken was so dry and overcooked that we couldn’t stomach it. We sent it back and were not charged for it – however, there was no apology. One of our kids got the chicken fingers. Fries were good, chicken was overcooked and dry. Another got the pizza and it was good. We tried the chicken fingers again poolside the next day – again they were very dry. We found the virgin pina coladas to be overly sweet. They have a little shop that sells coffee and croissants, fruit and other stuff in the morning. The blueberry croissants were very good as was the fruit. Food in the Lobby Bar was great and the service there was very friendly and attentive.
Internet access is slow in the lobby and sketchy in our room. The workout facility is very nice – clean, great modern equipment with built-in televisions, flat-screen monitors, and free weights.
Getting here was easy in our Thrifty Rental Car - insurance for the car cost us almost as much each day as the rental. We took the new toll road, but they had so much construction that the delays actually made is slower than taking the original old windy road. Save the toll for now and take the old road until they finish the construction.

“A Marriott Property Worth Visiting . . . Terrific Staff !!”

We were enchanted from the moment we arrived, where we received a personal greeting from the Guest Relations / Operations Manager. As a Platinum Elite member, we received the royal treatment with upgraded rooms for our stay and special attention throughout our visit, while celebrating a milestone birthday.

The staff went all out to decorate our room while we were out for the day (a member of our group had provided the decorations), and we were presented with Champagne and Chocolate covered strawberries on our return that evening, compliments of the hotel Guest Relations Manager.

The staff throughout the hotel (including restaurants and pool area) were very pleasant. Throughout the week they began recognizing us and bringing our desired food and beverage choices to us before we even asked. Cleaning staff was very good. No complaints.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and the pools offer a great way to spend the day, given the beaches all throughout the Jaco area are brown volcanic ash. Great beaches are just an hour away.

We would definitely return to the resort and recommend to friends. It was my first visit to a Marriott Resort property, and I wasn't disappointed. The memories will last a lifetime, and they're all good ones !!

Travel Hints:

Book at the SIBO Spa . . . . excellent experience. Loved it.

A travel technique we picked up years ago, is to tip the wait staff along the way, as opposed to the end of your visit, to demonstrate your appreciation as the services are delivered. We had the staff falling all over us.

Look for the all inclusive package (you can book all inclusive with points) when booking your stay, as the food is a bit on the expensive side (and well worth the money). Don't hesitate to ask the wait staff what's included each time you place your order. Doesn't hurt to check your portfolio each evening to be sure you're not being charged in error. We had a couple of incorrect food billings, but the hotel staff cleared them up almost immediately after verifying our package. I would not have wanted to wait until the end of our visit to sort it out.

Research and book tours before your arrival. The hotel caters to a tourism group titled Swiss Travel, and we found that they promote the local activities and restaurants, not necessarily the best ones. Be careful with transportation. When booking your travel from the airport with Swiss Travel, you pay full in advance, and if youre flights change significantly, you lose the prepaid amount due to their 24 hour cancellation notice. It's 2hrs to the San Jose Airport.

If you're looking for Zip Lining - we went with Adventure Park in Marimar for the 25 Zip lines over 11 Waterfalls (Best Ever !!)
If you're looking for a fabulous offsite dining experience, go with Adventure Dining in Jaco

Stay on the property paths. I walked into a red ant nest in the grass, and they had a feast on my foot. The initial sting is brutal... followed up by a bit of itching.

“A Teriffic Resort”

Our party of four was visiting Costa Rica for the first time and our choice of the Los Suenos Marriott Resort was perfect. We arrived late at night and checked in quickly. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful and our bags were immediately taken to our rooms. The rooms overlooked the ocean and were very nice. The floors are tile which I guess is why some reviews say the rooms are loud. I didn't find that to be the case and I think I would prefer to have a tile floor which is mopped everyday to a carpeted floor that tends to stay damp since it is in the tropics. The grounds of the resort are immaculate and fun to explore. The pool is fantastic and the swim up bar is excellent. The travel group located at the front of the hotel is fantastic for booking tours, restaurants, or shuttle service to Jaco or the airport. There are a few negatives though. As mentioned in other reviews the beach is not all that inviting. It is more of a rock beach and certainly not white sand. It's probably better to go into Jaco or other beaches in the area plus there are always people hawking tours or their wares on the beach. One thing to remember is that you're in a resort and it is expensive. The food and drinks are pricey so don't be shocked. That said, I would not hesitate to stay there again. We had picture perfect weather and visiting at the end of the high season does have it's advantages. There were no crowds!

“Magnificently beautiful country, delightful people...Marriott needs to improve service especially the front desk.”

My husband and I travel a lot and usually stay in Marriott Resorts. The grounds at Los Suenos are gorgeous, the pool lovely and food was good. The activities available near by, including zip-lining and hiking through rainforests, were wonderful. However, no one at the front desk of the resort seemed to know anything-no advice, suggestions, directions or interest in providing service. For a hotel of this caliber, people who staff the front desk need to have some polish and information at their finger tips. There is no concereige so it is doubly important that the front desk be knowledgable. This had nothing to do with miscommunication due to language but more of poor training. The other difficulty was wifi connection. I was frustrated by not being able to connect anywhere in the hotel thus being unable to load books on my Kindle while there. The other universal complaint is charging for internet service. Not only do they charge for internet access but charge for each computer.
None of the complaints about the Marriott are serious-with a little staff training they could easily be rectified.

“Beautiful grounds and beautiful people.”

We previously stayed at this resort in July with our family and loved it. We returned this March for a business trip which we were hosting involving only colleagues. All arrangements were followed to the T. All our guests had balcony rooms and breakfast included (the only way to go). The only snag was poor internet access. There did not seem to be any WIFI access outside the room and that was only via hard wire. This is difficult for a business trip but all the other amenities made up for this. The meeting room was well situated and equipped. The pool and grounds were fabulous. I believe our best meals were at the hotel provided by the hotel chef. All of our needs were taken care of by our events manager at the hotel: Rossana Esquivel. She was wonderful, always available and willing to work with any request.

“Lived up to all our expectations”

We're an American family who wanted a location that was ideal for both our 9-year-old son and ourselves. I've traveled extensively throughout the world and have been fortunate to have stayed in top hotels around the world, so I have fairly high standards. In addition, before booking, I checked with a number of acquaintances who had visited or lived in Costa Rica when considering region and hotel. ALL recommended the mid-Pacific region and the one constant was the Los Suenos Marriott. In fact, one friend who stayed at both Four Seasons and Los Suenos Marriott preferred the Marriott.

And we were thrilled with their recommendation -- Los Suenos Marriott is a gem! The staff are warm and incredibly attentive. Our room was lovely and immaculate, and the view was breathtaking. The food was excellent -- fresh and perfectly prepared. There were also kid-friendly options. We were on the all-inclusive plan, which was a huge plus because the prices are exhorbitant if paying as you go.

This is the perfect location for day excursions, easily arranged through the Swiss Travel office, conveniently located at the hotel, or through tour offices in Jaco. We had a wonderful experience through a new tour group http://costaricawaterfalltours.com. Our guide Vlad, picked us up at the hotel in a Land Rover, drove us along the Pacific Coast, to a dirt/stone road through a pineapple plantation, to a secluded location for a hike to waterfalls, where we slid down natural slides into cool, fresh pools. We didn't see another person, and Vlad was a wealth of information about the natural environment and Costa Rica in general. Of course, the zip line canopy tour (arranged through Swiss Travel) is also a must and didn't disappoint.

Our only caution is that for during the second half of Holy Week no alcohol can be sold and the resort becomes extremely crowded because it's a vacation week for Costa Ricans as well. Also, there were some security issues over those days, with some items being stolen at the pool when left unattended. Of course, as with any destination, no matter how upscale, it's wise not to leave anything of value unattended. We were heartbroken to have lost the photos with our camera, but our son assured us that he would "never forget his week in Costa Rica" even without photos.

When we return, we will definitely stay at Los Suenos Marriott again.
